Venus Williams will look to match her sister’s performance and Naomi Osaka will try to get her old form back.

Keep it here for all the news, notes and analysis from day two of the 2022 US Open.

Iga Swiatek sails for victory in the first round

The women’s No. 1 player lived up to expectations in the first round of the 2022 US Open. Iga Swiatek beat Yasmine Paolini on Tuesday, dropping her in straight sets 6-3 6-0.

After trading a few games with Paolini early on, Swiatek started to walk fully as the match went on. She did not allow Paolini to take a single match in the final set.

With the win, Swiatek qualified for the second round. She is looking to reclaim her second Grand Slam title for 2022 after winning the French Open in June. Swiatek never reached the final at the US Open. She lost in the fourth round of the event last year.

American Jessica Pegula qualified for the second round of the 2022 US Open. Pegula defeated Victoria Golubic in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) to advance.

The Kars went back and forth with Bayes early on, winning the first two sets 7-5, 7-5. Although the match was closer than expected early on, Alcaraz produced at least one massive light.

Alcaraz won the first two matches of the third set before Baez retired from the match due to injury.
