MLB Posteason 2022: Philadelphia Phillies snatch first playoff berth since 2011

Philadelphia (WPVI) – Aaron Nola played a perfect match in the seventh inning, and Kyle Schwarber scored two goals to lead the Philadelphia Phillies their first playoff in 11 years with a 3-0 win over the Houston Astros on Monday night.

After Brandon Marsh caught Mauricio Dupont’s flying ball at the center to knock out the final, the players jumped and cheered in glee before meeting in the hill as they hugged and bounced more.

The video board at Minute Maid Park featured the team’s logo and the words: “Congratulations Philadelphia” as the Phillies celebrated.

A small but noisy group of Philadelphia fans gathered near the team’s bunker and chanted, “Come on, Phyllis,” at the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Phillies snatched up at the same stadium where they got their last post-season run on September 14, 2011. That match was a 1–0 victory over the Astros highlighted by a complete shutdown of the match by Hall of Famer Roy Halladay.

Philadelphia’s post-season drought was the longest running in the major leagues after the Seattle Mariners clinched their first playoff berth in 21 years Friday night.

The Phillies entered their final regular season series opener of the year needing a win or a loss by the Brewers to claim the National League Wild Card spot. The Brewers rallied to beat the Diamondbacks 6-5 in 10 innings just minutes before Philadelphia wrapped up the win.

Nola (11-13) hit nine goals and didn’t let the main striker go until Jordan Alvarez scored twice in seventh place. David Hensley followed him with a single and Nola was replaced by Jose Alvarado who hit Kyle Tucker to finish the run.

Zach Evelyn put up a goalless ninth to complete the shot and get his first save in 11 years of professional football.

Schwarber got things going for the Phillies on their first visit to Houston since September 16, 2012, with Homer ahead of Lance McCullers (4-2)

Philadelphia added some insurance when Bryson Stott and Schwarber fired back-to-back singles from Jose Orchidi to start the eighth inning.

This is Schwarber’s eighth run this season, and the NL leads with 46 home runs, giving him 199 career homes.

The Phillies have three players who will make their first post-season debut after playing more than 600 games during their career. Jean Segura leads the group with 1,327, JT Realmuto has 1004 and Rhys Hoskins has 666.

McCullers allowed six strokes and one five-stroke run in six innings.

Manager Dusty Baker replaced Jose Altuff, Alex Bregman and Jeremy Pena with Aledmys Díaz, Dubon and Hensley in the seventh inning.

He said before the game that he intended to get some of his players out early to rest because Houston had already clinched a MLS best record.

Houston’s Justin Verlander, who leads the 1.80 ERA top teams, will try to claim his 18th win when the series continues on Tuesday against Ranger Suarez (10-6, 3.37).

Wild Card Racing

The Postseason for Major League Baseball has a little more weight this season.

MLB’s new Wild-Card format is similar to the format currently used in college baseball for the NCAA Super Regional Tour: the three games will be played on three consecutive days October 7-9 in the top-ranked court. The first team to win twice advances.

After that, the qualifiers will take place as usual. The Divisional Series will be the best of five, while the League and World Championship Series will be the best of seven.

Here’s more information about the combined postseason for baseball:

What’s New on the Wild Baseball Tour?

The Best of Three wildcard card format is a change from the one-game Sudden Death format that has been in place since 2012.

Six teams from both the Major League and National will qualify for the post-season, including the three division winners in each league. The three wild cards in each league will be the teams with the best record that hasn’t won their league.

The top two teams with the best records in each league will say goodbye and not have to play in the Wild Card Tour. These four teams get a few days off. Now, that would be the Astros and Yankees in the MLS and the Dodgers and Braves in the National League.

The wild card round will include four series: The No. 6 seed will play the No. 3 seed in both the AL and NL. seed number 5 will play in seed number 4.

Why does PLAYOFFS start late?

Post-season celebrations will run in October through November before the champions are crowned.

This is mostly due to the sports work struggle that led to work being interrupted during the winter season. I delayed the start of spring training and put the regular season back about a week. Baseball players and owners saved their regular 162-game season, but to do so, they had to move on opening day from March 31 to April 7.

Some games that were originally scheduled for the first week of the season have been moved to the end, meaning that the season that was originally scheduled to end on October 2 instead ends on October 5.

Hence, the start of the qualifiers was delayed.
