Austin, TexasAnd the October 5 2022 /PRNewswire/ — NauticEd, the world’s leading online sailing and water training provider, today announced a partnership with MarineVerse, a leading VR sailing simulator based in Australia, to deliver the first-ever virtual experience. A realistic sailing course that integrates virtual reality games with sailing training techniques and programs.
The VR initial sailing course, Self-Mastery, was developed by the two companies and features sailing training that balances authenticity and entertainment in a fully immersive virtual sailing experience.
The training puts players at the helm of a sailing yacht and helps them learn to clip the sails, manage the boat’s speed, and navigate. The boat reacts to wind conditions and every decision players make, giving them instant feedback on how their actions affect the boat’s behavior. Other, more complex units such as docking, maneuvering within the berth, night sailing and heavy weather are also being produced for future accessibility.
“How do you make sailing less intimidating and open to more diverse types of sailors? How do sailors continue to learn and continue to practice what they have already learned when they don’t have access to water? The answer is VR, and we think it will be revolutionary in sailing education,” he said. Grant Hedvin, founder and global director of education at NauticEd. “As experienced sailors have known for thousands of years, proficiency requires theoretical knowledge, practical skills and a lot of experience. Virtual Reality combines all aspects into a smooth, immersive and fun experience that pushes the limits of the user’s imagination in a safe and non-intimidating training environment.”
Greg DzimidovichMarineVerse, founder of MarineVerse, is equally excited about the partnership. “Sailing has always been about society for me,” Dziimidovic said. “With NauticEd we will make sailing education affordable and accessible while inspiring, educating and entertaining a rapidly growing community of seafarers.”
The VR Sailing course featuring the Self-Mastering module can now be accessed via the NauticEd website https://www.nauticed.org/ Or via the MarineVerse Cup app at MetaQuest in https://tinyurl.com/4v929x3f.
