NFL Insider Notes: Baker Mayfield’s problems and what the Panthers will do, Ravens wrong call and more from Week 4

During the first quarter of the season, Baker Mayfield did not experience the career revival he had hoped for. He is 1-3 as a rookie quarterback with his career lowest in completion percentage (54.7), touchdown percentage (3.4) and yards per attempt (6.4). His 10 assists so far this season — including five in Sunday’s loss to Arizona — are the most in the NFL, according to the PFF.

But I expect Mayfield to be the midfield first when leopards Take the field next Sunday against 49ers. In short, leopards have no other choice.

Carolina coach Matt Roll said after the 26-16 loss on Sunday that he doesn’t “think it’s right to talk about” a potential quarterback change. Although Sam Darnold is eligible to return from the injured reserve, I can’t imagine he’s in good health to start now, and he’s also lost the training camp competition to Mayfield.

Panthers think they have a top 10 defense that need some help from their attack. The offensive line played well. The team assembled enough skill mode weapons with Christian McCaffrey, Robbie Anderson, DJ Moore, and Lavisca Chenault. The quarterback’s play was well below average.

Plus, the locker room is healthy, Carolina sources have said repeatedly over the past month, and they credit the beleaguered Rhule with developing from his first two years in the driving seat. However, the Panthers are 1-26 in the Rhule when they allow at least 17 points.

Over the next three weeks, the Panthers will face three out of the four Conference Finals contenders since last season: the 49ers, rams And the pirate.

Harbaugh made the wrong call, even if the analyzes back it up

I slept over it and the next morning I still didn’t like John Harbaugh’s decision to go down 4th and goal from 2. She wasn’t by my side on Sunday afternoon when the offense remained on the field, but I was calling for crows To take all three points but guaranteed.

With 4:15 left in the 20 tie ball game, Harbaugh kept the ball in Lamar Jackson’s hand and attempted to score. Passage intercepted – prayer at launch point. The InvoicesArmed with all three of their timeouts with their prolific attack, they collect the ball on the field for a game-winning 21-yard kick as the time runs out.

“Well, I felt that gave us the best chance of winning the match because of seven [points]”The worst thing that happens is if they go down the field and score – and I think we’ll stop them – but if they go down the field and score a touchdown, the worst thing that can happen is you’re in overtime,” Harbo said after the game. But you kicked a field goal there, now it’s not a three-point game anymore, it’s a four-goal game. You put them outside, and you put your defense at a disadvantage because they have four negative points to convert all the way down the field and a chance to score seven again, and then you lose the match on touchdown.

“The other thing you think you’ll get from the 2-yard line, so I’m pretty confident the defense can stop them there with the ball on the 2-yard line, so we have it backed up if we don’t get it. It didn’t work out that way, unfortunately, and we lost the game.” So, in hindsight, you can take the points, but if you look at it analytically, understand why we are doing this.”

Analytics supports Harpo. According to Next Gen Stats, the decision was a “head off.” The probability of winning was 84.3% with a touchdown and 64.3% with a made field goal. (It’s important to note that the next generation also had actual yards to hit three, not two.)

But while touchdowns undoubtedly give the Ravens the best chance of winning the match, the turnover on touchdown also gives them the best chance of losing the match. The probability of Buffalo winning before the fourth down play was 33%. After the Jackson Zone end zone intercepted, the ratio increased to 58% even after it was backed up on its own 2. [Full disclosure here: I’ve noted recently my side eye at win probability in today’s NFL.]

Bills consume the most time per drive, most yards per drive and have the second most runs per drive in the league. They have the best attack in third place in the league (55.8 percent conversion rate) and 5 of 7 in fourth place.

Harbo believed in his defense, just as he believed in attacking which was somewhat better than playing with coins. But it was the same defense that saw two weeks ago in the same field advance 21 points against dolphins evaporate. And on Sunday, the 17-point lead disappeared.

Not only that, but four minutes and three time-outs with the MVP nominee as the opposing midfielder is an eternity.

Whether the Ravens kick the field goal or get on the ground, the defense still needs to prevent the buffalo’s relegation. There is also no indication that the Bills did not attempt to finish the game with a two-point conversion, on the road, in poor conditions, against a defense that would have just been destroyed. If the Bills crossed through Baltimore 35 behind by three points, it is very likely that the game would have reverted to a three-point game. The Ravens also had two timeouts of their own at the start of the Bills campaign to keep time in the event of a faster field goal to tie the match.

Going downhill has increased the oddity of the crows winning the game, which is the point of this great experience we call competitive esports. Failure to succeed in that play also increased his odds of losing. The 2-2 Ravens would like to be 3-1 today, but they wouldn’t mind 2-1-1 either.

number Cowboys QB controversy despite the success of Rush

I can’t believe I have to say this, but there’s no arguing about a Dallas quarterback. The Cowboys will start Dak Prescott when he’s healthy to play, and that might well be this week against the Rams.

Rush has exceeded expectations in his interim role, and is the first Dallas quarterback to start his football career 4-0 as a player. He’s had a passing rating above 100 this season and hasn’t changed football because the Cowboys are undefeated under his watch.

His impeccable record is proof of Cowboy belief in Rush, but it doesn’t refer to any kind of quarterback controversy. When a plan is executed as you hoped it to be, it is not time to change it.

Jerry Jones raised some eyebrows last month when he said he would welcome a quarterback competition in Dallas. This is because it will make his team interesting, and when his team is interesting, he makes more money. The Cowboys are the most valuable team in the NFL, in part, because of the things Jerry Jones says.

Sitting on an undefeated player is one of those good problems that Jones is lucky enough to deal with.

More Insider Notes for Week 4

  • I expect it to be patriots To, at least, sign a quarterback for the coaching staff by Tuesday noon. While it’s a good sign that they haven’t put Mac Jones (ankle) on IR with a set to return, it’s unclear if he’ll be able to play this week against black. Brian Hoyer is on concussion protocol and wouldn’t be able to train until later in the week if he cleared. Bailey Zappe is QB’s only healthy option, and whether he starts against the Lions or (in a potential chance) backs Jones, New England still needs someone to run their scouts this week. No team scores more points or yards more than Detroit, so the New England defense should get a decent appearance this week of training.
  • Emotions run high, and the ravens know exactly what kind of character Marcus Peters is. I don’t expect any internal fallout from his side reaction on Sunday.
