Shane Duan explains his future role with the Arizona Coyotes

I met with Shin Duan on Friday to clarify the comments that appeared in short blog From Sportsnet’s Elliot Friedman on Thursday with the headline: Shane Doan retracts his role with the Arizona Coyotes.

This wasn’t the first time I had this conversation with Doan, who rejoined the Coyotes in January 2021 as CEO of hockey development after retiring as a player in 2017. Observed after the NHL Draft In Montreal in June, Duane’s contract was to expire. I have updated the status In consecutive mail bags In July and August, he noted: “Nothing has been announced, but I expect Shen Duan to step back from the organization and yet still be around and be involved in various capacities next season. To what extent that can depend on how much that happens.”

On Friday, Doan confirmed that earlier assessment.

“It’s the same thing I told you weeks ago; nothing has changed.” “I’m going back a little bit from some of the things I did last year on the business side, but I still have a role on the business side and I’m going to take a casual role on the hockey side.

“I want coyotes to succeed. I want this ring bargain to succeed, but I’m taking a step back to other opportunities I’ve had or may have had, and I’m taking a step back to spend time with my wife [Andrea], to watch my son Carson play soccer, to watch my son Josh play hockey at Arizona State University. And my daughters are home and we have dinner on Sunday, so I don’t want to miss those nights. This is really what it is. It’s really important to me.”

Duane’s youngest daughter, Karis, attends Arizona State University’s Barrett Honors College, while his eldest daughter, Gracie, returns home to work at a startup while the family awaits the movie’s premiere.Suburban robberyin which it appears.

“I enjoy being able to stop and have lunch with Karys and do things with her. Gracie has come home from California so I spend time with her when she calls and wants to lunch with me,” Shane said. “I want to watch Josh’s games on Friday and Saturday. I want to watch Carson’s games on Thursday and the kids come home on Sunday for dinner.”

At the same time, Doan keeps his options open to other opportunities that may arise. He has already served Hockey Canada in numerous positions, most recently as its General Manager at the 2022 Olympics and World Championships. He also worked for three years in hockey operations with the NHL before taking up his current role with the Coyotes. Part of the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers property group, he’s been around the NHL locker rooms for over two decades and loves the hockey side of things more than ever.

I asked Doan what he would do with the wolves this season.

“I still have great communication with [team president and CEO] Xavier [Gutierrez] “I am involved in helping in whatever areas I can be involved in,” he said. “I am sure that I will help the institution and help the graduates because I want it to work well for them. I want everything to work well. I will meet with one of the sponsors on the 21st; have lunch with them. I will do everything I can to help the success of this franchise.”

“I will support [GM] law Project [Armstrong] In an informal way in hockey operations. I’ll be around. “

Gutierrez reiterated Duane’s importance to the franchise.

“Shane remains an employee of Coyotes and a very valuable member of our organization,” he said. “He is extensively involved in our business operations reporting to me, and has an invaluable voice in the hockey operations including an important role in decision-making. He is a valuable advisor to owner Alex Meruelo on all aspects of the Coyotes, particularly with our efforts around the Tempe area The proposed entertainment. However, he will spend more time with his family and other opportunities in the future.”
